Goodnight Mister Tom UK Tour 2011
A marvellous story that knows just how to grab the emotions
The Guardian
One of the most uplifting stories ever written, Michelle Magorian's stunning Goodnight Mister Tom is brought gloriously to life with this brand new stage adaptation by Chichester Festival Theatre, in association with The Children's Touring Partnership and co-produced by Fiery Angel.
Set during the dark and dangerous build up to the Second World War, Goodnight Mister Tom follows lonely William Beech, who is evacuated to the idyllic English countryside and builds a remarkable and moving friendship with the elderly recluse Tom Oakley. All seems perfect until William is devastatingly summoned by his mother back to London. This tale of two broken souls, despite separated by age and background, Goodnight Mister Tom teaches the value of love and proves that friendship has no barriers.
Marking the 30th Anniversary of Michelle Magorian's 1981 novel, this heart-warming and inspiring evening has been adapted by David Wood, described by The Times as the UK's “National Children's Dramatist,” and directed by Chichester Associate Angus Jackson.
Goodnight Mister Tom will be at the Chichester Festival Theatre from Wednesday 2 to Saturday 5 February 2011, moving to the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre from the Tuesday 8 to Saturday 12 February 2011. More venues to be announced shortly.
Goodnight Mister Tom is an enduring classic for both children and adults alike and has sold in excess of 1.2 million copies in the UK alone. As well as being a world-wide favourite, the BAFTA award-winning TV film of the book starring John Thaw attracted 14 million views making it one of the best loved stories of its generation.
